WHO ARE WE?
Rainbow’s Pride in Scarborough (RPIS) is an event put together by a grassroots community collective and has been held annually for the past 6 years. The event was created by myself, Rainbow Hunt who recognizes the need for positive spaces that celebrate the diversity of LGBTQ+ (newcomer, immigrant, refugee, Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC), 2 spirit) Youth in Scarborough. RPIS provides a space for people to celebrate who they are and feel like they are a part of a community. We host a pride event with youth performances, food, activities, a resource fair and a way for youth to connect through services. We also run costume/traditional clothing workshops where participants can design their own cool clothing and express themselves through art and their disability and build skills. The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) and our team outreach at different events/conferences and opportunities that are available.
WHY IS THIS ORGANIZATION NEEDED?
This organization is needed because of lack of LGBTQ+ services and supports in the Scarborough Community. Youth isolation plays a big part of why RPIS is needed and gives youth a space where they can access and gain resources. Through our collaborative approach we have partnered with agencies to provide supportive services, and build a connected community
